By this are you refering to REDOX reactions? If so, then it is very hard to study this as reactions tend to occur very quickly and you need technqiues that are extremely fast, for example what is known as femtosecond spectroscopy which can be done using X-rays or infrared radiation to be able to see changes in molecular states. However, if you are purely interested in the rates of reactions then this can be done by many different means even in small labs.
