That’s a good question! I’m currently in the middle of my PhD so I can’t answer that just yet. What I can say though is that it is hard work. There is a lot of self motivation that you need and perseverance, but it is fun! You’re working right at the edge of a field which is really exciting and it’s ok to not know the answers. One other thing is that you should always take time out, do a sport, go to the gym, meet up with friends and socialise. You should always make time to relax.
There are lots of PhD studentships available and as long as you get the required grades you should be able to find one. The important thing is to find the right PhD for you, one that will stimulate and interest you as well as challenge you. Doing a PhD is an amazing experience and something that I would really recommend if you are interested!
Callum has made a very good point, doing a PhD can be hugely interesting and rewarding. But a PhD is hard, it is meant to be hard. After all, a PhD is basically doing even more advanced studying. You build on thins you’ve done during your degree and you start to learn from people around you about how to do research. At times you’ve got to dig deep and at other times it is an absolute blast.
