I work at a big facility where we produce both neutrons and muons (muons are essentially heavy electrons and are in the lepton family of particles). I work specifically with the muons that are produced at our source and I look after and run multi-million pound instruments to use the muons to study different properties of materials. These physical properties can range from things like magentism, superconductivity to semiconductors and even looking at how small molecules behaviour. We have a large program where users from external institutions, such as universities, can come and use the facilities we have. So a lot of my time goes towards helping these people run thier experiments. I also spend a decent amount of time doing my own research and some time maintaining equipment.
