Man, this is one tough question. Science is vast and wide reaching, so there is no single biggest question. Also, you could ask 10 people this question and get 10 different answers. Scientists are no different from anyone else and we all have our own interests or “hobby-horses” if you like, so everyone has thier own little bit of science that excites them and drives thier research. I think it’s fair to say most of us would be quite biased when thinking of the big problems in science and it would be firmly cemented with our own fields. For example, I like to think discovery of plastic magnets and electrical materials that can compete with the metals we have today would be a game-changer.

I think this really depends what scientists you talk to and what their interests are…

I think anything from curing cancer or creating new battery technologies or finding new drugs for antibiotic resistance, but again depends on who you talk to 🙂

Same as all the previous answers. It really depends on what you’re interested in and consider to be “the biggest”!

I would hazard a guess that the most fundamental questions for science concern surround understanding how our world works

I agree with all of the answers above. Depending who is the scientist, we all try to understand world around us, how it works, how we can have a better life, how we can cure diseases, how to produce better cars so they are not polluting our beautiful earth, where does the world come from……
