In science-related field I started working as a volunteer when I was an undergrad student. I was after my 2nd year and I took a placement in an Institute of Plant Genetics to have a bit of laboratory experience and observe scientist at work. I loved it. Since then I always tried to work/volunteer in different laboratories at least a little bit. Finally I started working and be paid for doing science, when I started my PhD, so 12 years ago. When I started university I was a math tutor for high school students and some of my friends from uni. I always loved math and I was very proud when I managed to explain some aspects of it to someone who did not like it or was struggling a bit with it.
I finished my degree in 1998 and started a PhD. I finished that in 2001 and worked as a Postdoctoral researcher for 2 years. I then worked for a company until 2008 and have been in my current role as a Senior Lecturer for 10 years….thats a long time haha!
